Something like a Bavarian „Hackbrett“ or a Hungarian gypsy instrument?
Therefore it is an instrument that belongs to folk music, maybe to the tradition of the Alps or by the Sinti. But then what business does a dulcimer have on a professional concert stage?
These questions are obvious to ask in Western culture, however would sound strange in White Russia. Because the dulcimer – whose history stretches back to the Orient and
through the centuries spread all over Europe – found its place among
the classical disciplines at the Musical colleges and conservatories in White Russia. Only there was it possible to create a rich tradition of concert literature and culture of performance.
In this culture and tradition the potential of the dulcimer by a soloist can be fully exploited,
exhibiting its unique character, which should be acknowledged more by European audiences.
